PRAIA DE ITAÚNA, Saquarema, Brazil (Monday, June 23, 2025) - The VIVO Rio Pro Presented by Corona Cero, Stop No. 9 on the World Surf League (WSL) 2025 Championship Tour (CT), has been called OFF at Praia de Itaúna, in Saquarema, Brazil. Sunny skies and light offshore winds were present in the morning, but inconsistent conditions and a decrease in swell have led event organizers to postpone competition for two consecutive days with a call scheduled for Wednesday, June 25 at 7:15 AM (GMT-3).
“The surf has dropped quite considerably since yesterday, it’s only 2-3 feet and with very slow sets. Some good ones when they do come, but not consistent enough to put an important round in the water” said Renato Hickel, VP of Tours and Competition. “We know we have a big swell on the way, expecting 6-10 foot waves on Wednesday and that’s when we’ll have our next call at 7:15 AM (GMT-3) for a possible 7:33 AM start.”

When conditions improve and competition resumes, the men’s elimination round will open up with No. 1 ranked surfer Jordy Smith (RSA) against event wildcard Gabriel Klaussner (BRA). They will be followed in Heat 2 by surfing’s representatives of style and flair featuring Ethan Ewing (AUS) against Marco Mignot (FRA). Heat 3 will see friendly-fire with world No. 2 Yago Dora (BRA) matching up against fellow countryman and WSL wildcard Peterson Crisanto (BRA). To finish up the first half of the round, an in-form Jack Robinson (AUS) will clash against Rio Waida (INA).
They will be followed in Heat 5 featuring the No. 3 ranked surfer Kanoa Igarashi (JPN) against Alejo Muniz (BRA), Heat 6 guarantees fireworks with Griffin Colapinto (USA) versus João Chianca (BRA), Heat 7 will see Hawaiians Barron Mamiya (HAW) and Seth Moniz (HAW) matching up and to complete the elimination round, Jake Marshall (USA) will face Connor O’ Leary (JPN).

On the women’s side, the Quarterfinalists have already been determined and will see exciting matchups featuring Caroline Marks (USA) against Tatiana Weston-Webb (BRA) in Heat 1. They will be followed by another clash that will see Tyler Wright (AUS) against crowd favorite Luana Silva (BRA). The No. 3 ranked surfer Molly Picklum (AUS) will face the WSL wildcard Arena Rodriguez (PER) and Lakey Peterson (USA) will match up against fiery Erin Brooks (CAN) in Heat 4 of the women’s Quarterfinals.
