Kirkcaldy club lack creativity in drab display on glorious autumnal afternoon in Fife

Scott Brown's Ayr United came away from Starks Park with all three points after a dominant display saw them win 2-0 against Raith Rovers, moving them into the top four of the William Hill Championship.

The visitors took the lead in the 12th minute when Mark McKenzie nipped in at the near post to flick the ball beyond the despairing Joshua Rae, and 20 minutes later they doubled the lead through a Jamie Murphy penalty.

Raith edged the possession throughout the game, but most of their attacks lacked creativity, with striker Jack Hamilton being isolated for most of the afternoon. The Fife team spent far too much time hitting the ball long to a frustrated attack, and could not get either Dylan Easton or Hamilton into the game anywhere near enough to mount a comeback.

Early in the second half Ayr's Euan Walker passed up a golden opportunity to add a third goal when he hit the bar with just the goalkeeper to beat.

Victory extended Ayr's unbeaten run to 7 games.
